Each Second An Eternity
Eternity But A Blink
Of An Eye
One day our body-mind is here in this world and the next day it’s not. The ‘here’ portion of our so-called ‘existence’ is a blink of an eye compared to the eternity that we’re ‘not’ here. This is not intended to be a morbid observation, but a pointing to the unalterable presence of awareness in each one of us that knows the coming and going of the body-mind but doesn’t come and go with it. Have you, as this knowing presence, ever experienced your own disappearance?
And because this ever-present awareness has no limits or boundaries, no beginning or end, no ‘time’ when it is not present, it is beyond time and space – actually contains time and space – and is therefore infinite and eternal.
This eternal and infinite ever-present awareness is our essential nature. The essential nature of each one of us, as there can only be one. Where is there room for two in the infinite and eternal?
Look at your own consciousness. Can any limits be found? Can you find a beginning or end to your ever-present awareness, the essence within you that knows I am? Can you find a boundary where your awareness stops and something else starts? No, no, and no.
To say that there are two things going on is like saying that the wave is not the water. Yes, a wave takes on a distinctive shape for a while, but it is made only of water, is a temporary manifestation of the water, and eventually dissolves back into its source, the ocean.
We may think we are separate beings with our own personal consciousness, but we are merely unique expressions of the one consciousness, the source of all appearances. When this is recognized, and this is the supreme realization, conflict and confusion dissolve in an ocean of love.
